Blackheath Event- They Cannot Take the Sky - Saturday 15th July

“It is a book whose human, frank, illuminating voices the government does not want to hear from” author Tom Keneally.
For more than two decades, Australia has locked up people who arrive here fleeing persecution - sometimes briefly, sometimes for years. In a book launched earlier this year - They Cannot Take the Sky -  those people tell their stories, in their own words.

Gleebooks Blackheath is proud to be bringing to the mountains, one of the survivors of Christmas Island – Hani Abdile – to talk about her experience with one of the coordinators of the book – Angelica Neville.  Angelica grew up in Blackheath and is now a writer specialising in refugee studies.

The event will be held at the Blackheath Community Hall on Saturday 15th July at 2.00pm for a 2.30pm start.
The cost is $10 per person whereby a percentage will be donated to the Behind the Wire Organisation. This event will also be supporting the Blue Mountains Refugee Support Group who will have a representative there.
Bookings are essential. Please phone Gleebooks Blackheath on 4787 6340 or email
